Juan holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Navarra, as well as a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Administration from the Spanish Distance Education University (UNED). He completed an MA in Political and Legal Theory from University College London (UCL) in 2018 and is currently finishing a PhD. For over a decade, he has worked as a strategic consultant for Third Sector organizations, both in Spain and the EU, as well as the United States, South Africa and Kenya, and is specialised in think tanks. In 2015, he founded Fortius Consulting, a strategic consulting firm specialized in the Third Sector advising civil society organizations to maximize their impact in society. He has also held executive positions. Among others, he has been executive director of Fundación Civismo, and International Director of Fundación Disenso. He is currently the president of Fundación Principios and has founded numerous civic organisations across the world. He publishes regularly in various Spanish and international newspapers and journals and speaks in several media outlets. He also teaches at different Spanish and Latin American universities.
