Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Royal Scottish National Orchestra

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is one of Europe's leading symphony orchestras with a rich history stretching back 130 years. Led by Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård, the Orchestra performs weekly concerts across Scotland and tours internationally. The RSNO’s mission is to be a welcoming and open organisation that believes music can enrich lives. We create gathering points that engage, educate, entertain, and move people no matter their life stage or circumstances. We link music with what matters – with moments of relevance for all of Scotland’s people and for our society. Working closely with our community partners (e.g. Sistema Scotland), we deliver over 30 different learning and engagement projects annually as part of our ambitious outreach strategy. Examples include the baby app Astar (Gaelic for 'journey’), Community Pop-Ups, National Schools Concert Programme, Youth Chorus, Film Composers Lab, Community Orchestra, ST/ART project for brain injury survivors, dementia-friendly concerts, and more. In 2021, the RSNO launched Scotland’s Studio – a state-of-the-art recording studio at the RSNO Centre, specialising in the production of commercial recordings for film & television soundtracks and educational projects.
