FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano ETS
Description
FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano is a non-profit foundation established in 1975, inspired by the UK’s National Trust, with the mission of protecting, restoring, and enhancing Italy’s historical, artistic, and environmental heritage. Through the support of members, donors, volunteers, companies, and institutions, FAI safeguards special places across the country—from historic villas and castles to gardens, coastlines, and archaeological sites—ensuring that they can be enjoyed by present and future generations. Since its founding, FAI has rescued, restored, and opened to the public 75 remarkable sites across Italy, creating a unique network of cultural and natural landmarks that celebrate the richness and diversity of the nation’s heritage.
Beyond conservation, FAI is committed to fostering a deeper appreciation of Italy’s heritage by promoting education, public engagement, and active citizenship. Through cultural initiatives, educational programs, and advocacy activities, the Foundation encourages individuals and communities to take responsibility for the protection of the environment, landscape, and historic assets. Today, FAI’s impact is strengthened by the support of more than 320,000 members and a nationwide network of over 16,000 volunteers, whose dedication helps advance its mission of preserving and enhancing Italy’s cultural and environmental legacy for the common good, in the spirit of Article 9 of the Italian Constitution.
