Para/Site Art Space Limited

Para/Site Art Space Limited

Founded in early 1996 as an artist-run space, Para Site was Hong Kong’s first nonprofit organisation dedicated to present and promote contemporary art and crucial self-organised structure within the city’s civil society. It is one of the oldest and most active independent art institutions in Asia. It produces exhibitions, publications, discursive, and educational projects aimed at forging a critical understanding of local and international phenomena in art and society.

Throughout the years, Para Site has developed a groundbreaking way of working that has connected Hong Kong’s local scene with the broader Asian and international context of contemporary art. In the past decade, numerous Para Site exhibitions have toured around the world, engaging with art circles on all continents through a diverse range of educational programmes and community initiatives, including International Conference and Workshop for Emerging Professionals, Emerging Curators Exhibition, 2046 Fermentation + Fellowship programme, Residency for emerging Hong Kong artists, the Reading Room in collaboration with C& Centre of Unfinished Business and Asia Art Archive, the Unconditional Trust in collaboration with Asia Art Archive, and publications.

Para Site is a registered non-profit organisation in Hong Kong that relies on private and government support to fund its operations. The institution is currently a recipient of grants from the Arts Development Matching Grant Pilot Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and the S. H. Ho Foundation. All exhibitions and programmes are open to the public free of charge.
